I’m a passionate guy. And thank goodness for that because it makes things a whole lot more fun. Two of my biggest passions are construction and people, which means I get to have fun every day. I love everything about the built environment – from digging the hole (that was me in my youth working for a residential builder) to walking a client through its finished space, presenting them with a whole new world of possibilities.
As you can imagine, I’m pretty jazzed to be responsible for setting the business strategy here at Gardner Builders. I’m very passionate about building a construction company that provides a different experience for our employees, subcontractors, designers and clients, including transparency, trust, communication, and hospitality.
My experience comes from both the East and West coasts, and many points in between. After receiving my apprenticeship as an outside machinist—working on aircraft carriers and submarines—from the Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia, I studied civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and then road tripped it to San Francisco to begin my career in commercial construction. I’ve worked in various roles at various companies since then, and they’ve all made me better at my work today.
When I’m not on the job, I like to spend time on my other passions: my family – four kids who keep me laughing, and cheering for my two favorite teams – the Boston Red Sox and the Wisconsin Badgers. Go Bucky!

I love being on the job site; I love the hands-on activity. When you have multiple trades working together as a team, a camaraderie develops that brings out the best in everyone. I have a true appreciation for each trade and strive to understand everyone’s needs so we can execute flawlessly. My sharp eye for detail, including discovering issues before they become a problem, makes me particular about the experience and product we deliver. I’m often told that I’m more particular about our clients’ projects than they are – that’s my job.
At Gardner Builders, I make sure everything happening onsite is running smoothly. It’s my responsibility to ensure our projects are completed correctly, on time, within budget, and of the highest quality. I oversee project schedules, safety procedures, and the supervision of all field personnel. My goal: a zero punch list upon project completion and a positive, fun experience for the client.
My early career in millwork and finish carpentry has helped develop my eye for detail as a superintendent. With 10+ years of experience managing projects, I’ve had the opportunity to work with an extensive list of clients on a variety of project types; I’m very proud of and grateful for the strong relationships I’ve built with my partners – architects, building inspectors and management, subcontractors, and clients.
Mostly, I just like to have fun, on or off the job. I enjoy being involved in my children’s school and sports, woodworking, and reading the latest Vince Flynn novel.

I’ve got it covered. That’s my job. I make sure the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed. Project management is being able to see the big picture through a microscope; you’re focused on the details, but you can’t lose sight of the total package. It’s just the way I see things; it’s how I operate. Any other way, and my internal alarm would start going off.
At Gardner Builders, I’m responsible for making sure we deliver exceptional projects on time and on budget. I make sure our project managers are equipped to get whatever needs doing, done. We practice open communication with our clients and project partners to ensure we understand the client’s needs and desires, and then we execute flawlessly – from the planning phase to speed to market – in order to ensure we exceed expectations every time.
I’ve logged time in as a carpenter, superintendent, and project manager. All three have allowed me to work on a variety of project types. I’m particularly experienced in technically-complex projects, including tenant improvement work, healthcare construction, and ground-up projects.
One of my favorite roles at Gardner Builders is keeping things light under pressure. I love a good prank to get the office laughing. When I’m not managing projects, I’m either parking cars on Sunday mornings at church or in Mexico with my wife, at the cabin with my kids, or fishing with my buddies.
